Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

JIECAR – Islamic Education Contemporary and Applied Research recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies can support authors in improving the clarity and presentation of scholarly manuscripts. However, their use must remain under appropriate human oversight and academic responsibility.

The following policy applies to the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation:

  • Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may be used to improve language, grammar, readability, and organization of the manuscript.
  • Authors must carefully review, verify, and edit all AI-generated or AI-assisted content. AI tools may produce inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or misleading information.
  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and academic content of their manuscripts, including any content produced or assisted by AI.
  • Generative AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires human responsibility and accountability.
  • Authors must not use generative AI to fabricate or manipulate research data, results, references, citations, images, or other research evidence.
  • The use of AI for substantive research activities, such as data analysis or interpretation, must be appropriately disclosed when it materially contributes to the research.

Disclosure of Generative AI Use

When generative AI or AI-assisted technologies are used in preparing the manuscript, authors must disclose their use in a dedicated section placed before the References.

The following format is recommended:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE OF USE]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed, verified, and edited the content and accept full responsibility for the final version of the manuscript.

The disclosure is not required for basic tools used solely for spelling, grammar checking, formatting, or reference management, provided that these tools do not generate or substantially modify the scholarly content.

If no generative AI or AI-assisted technology was used in preparing the manuscript, no declaration is required.

Use of AI by Editors and Reviewers

To protect confidentiality, intellectual property, and the integrity of the peer-review process, editors and reviewers of JIECAR must not upload submitted manuscripts or confidential manuscript content to publicly available generative AI tools for review, analysis, rewriting, or evaluation.

Editors and reviewers remain responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts and for ensuring that editorial and peer-review decisions are based on independent scholarly assessment.

JIECAR may update this policy in accordance with developments in AI technology, research ethics, and international publication-ethics standards.
